The Ipswich railway line is an suburban railway line extending 30.9 km (19.2 mi) southwest from Brisbane (38.6 km from Central station by rail), the state capital of Queensland, Australia. It is part of the QR Citytrain network.
After Ipswich, the Ipswich line connects to the interurban Rosewood line. The Springfield line, in the preliminary construction phase, will branch off the Ipswich line at Darra railway station.

History

The first railway in Queensland opened on 31 July 1865 with a line extending from Ipswich to the small town of Grandchester (then known as Bigge's Camp). In 1876 the line connected from Ipswich to Brisbane City at Roma Street railway station.

Most services stop at all stations to Bowen Hills railway station. The typical travel time between Ipswich and Brisbane City is approximately 53 minutes (to Central). During weekday peak times, a few services may skip stations between Redbank and Roma Street for faster travel times for commuters working in the Brisbane central business district.

Passengers for/from the Rosewood line change at Ipswich, Tennyson line at Corinda, Beenleigh, Gold Coast and Cleveland lines at Roma Street, and all other lines at Central.
