Ipswich railway line is an
suburban
railway line extending 30.9
km (19.2
mi) southwest from
Brisbane (38.6
km from
Central station by rail), the state capital of
Queensland,
Australia. It is part of the
QR Citytrain network.
After Ipswich, the Ipswich line connects to the interurban
Rosewood line. The
Springfield line, in the preliminary construction phase, will branch off the Ipswich line at
Darra railway station.
History
The first railway in Queensland opened on
31 July 1865 with a line extending from Ipswich to the small town of
Grandchester (then known as Bigge's Camp). In
1876 the line connected from Ipswich to Brisbane City at
Roma Street railway station.
Line guide and services
Most services stop at all stations to
Bowen Hills railway station. The typical travel time between Ipswich and Brisbane City is approximately 53 minutes (to
Central). During weekday peak times, a few services may skip stations between
Redbank and
Roma Street for faster travel times for commuters working in the
Brisbane central business district.
During the off-peak, services generally continue to
Caboolture railway station on the
Caboolture line.
Passengers for/from the
Rosewood line change at Ipswich,
Tennyson line at Corinda,
Beenleigh,
Gold Coast and
Cleveland lines at Roma Street, and all other lines at Central.
